Crust
A secondary morphology
Definition:
this is a secondary morphology (similar to an adjective used to describe the primary morphological terms)
crust is most often referred to by patients as a "scab"
usually comprised of dried serum, blood, or pus on the surface of the skin
can also be composed of bacteria although this is not necessary for the word crust to be used
General Explanation for a Crust
As mentioned above, crust is caused by dried serum, blood, or pus. It usually is a layer overtop of the epidermis.
Examples:
Impetigo = secondary infection of the skin, typically has a “golden-honey” coloured crust
