Definition:
is a secondary morphology
is palpable
has the appearance of flaky skin
General Explanation for Scale:
Hyperkeratosis = too much keratin which is the primary component of the top layer of skin (the stratum corneum)
keratin- a protein produced by keratinocytes (one of the cells that composes skin)
Generally caused by too much production of keratin or decreased desquamation/sloughing of the top layer of skin
Examples:
Psoriasis
Tinea - fungal infection
