Excoriation
A secondary morphology
Definition:
most patients will refer to an excoriation as a "scratch"
Pathophysiology:
injury to the epidermis by an exogenous cause
the most common cause is scratching, caused by pruritic (itchy) disorders
Examples:
Acne excoriée = acne that has been picked
Atopic dermatitis = eczema
Arthropod bites = insect bites
