Module title = Tutorial: Derm Morphology
Lesson title = Lichenification
This is lesson 18 of 18 in this module
Lichenification
A secondary morphology
Definition:
is thickening of the epidermis
causes an accentuation of natural skin lines; for instance, lines on the skin will appear more prominent
Examples:
Lichen simplex chronicus = diagnosis for a chronically irritated area of skin generally from repeated scratching and/or rubbing
typically there is a primary process such as eczema or an allergic contact dermatitis that causes the patient to start rubbing/scratching the skin and this triggers a habit of perpetual scratching in the same area leading to thickening of the epidermis
